The Cape Charles Hotel Historic Inn... a great idea at
the wrong place and time.
During
the recent "Great Recession", Cape Charles experienced
another big economic downturn, being especially hard hit because of
the remote location.
After the real estate bubble burst in 2006, the bottom fell out of
the local economy, which was largely based on "flipping"
vacation real estate. Alas, there was no longer any compelling
reason for folks to come and stay at a high end Inn in the middle
of nowhere, with nothing to do, no matter how nice the Inn was.
Even the Schooner shown in the top frame left. The Hotel moved to
seasonal only operation in 2007 and closed for guests in 2009 as it
was not worth the commute for the owners from Philadelphia since
there was no customer base.
The Hotel building was sold and is vacant. What a shame.

THE HOTEL HAS BEEN CLOSED TO GUESTS SINCE THE END OF
2009
