Cape Charles Sunset
There are beautiful sunsets to be viewed from Cape Charles. There is a rural, desolate beauty to the area but unfortunately not much else to do.

Many guests complained that there was nothing to do. "You can fish, watch birds, boat, swim in the waist deep water or kayak all you want in the beautiful middle of nowhere."

We replied "That may be true, but if that is your idea of paradise, you have found it."

The Cape Charles Hotel - May She Rest In Peace

The Cape Charles Hotel Historic Inn... a great idea at the wrong place and time.

During the recent "Great Recession", Cape Charles experienced another big economic downturn, being especially hard hit because of the remote location.

After the real estate bubble burst in 2006, the bottom fell out of the local economy, which was largely based on "flipping" vacation real estate. Alas, there was no longer any compelling reason for folks to come and stay at a high end Inn in the middle of nowhere, with nothing to do, no matter how nice the Inn was.

Even the Schooner shown in the top frame left. The Hotel moved to seasonal only operation in 2007 and closed for guests in 2009 as it was not worth the commute for the owners from Philadelphia since there was no customer base.

The Hotel building was sold and is vacant. What a shame.

THE HOTEL HAS BEEN CLOSED TO GUESTS SINCE THE END OF 2009

“A good hotel provides the space and the atmosphere for what it is you need.”
