Can you tell me more about the rooms?
All rooms have private bath, Serta
Perfect Sleeper Pillow-Top Mattress, 400
thread count Egyptian cotton linens, A/C
& Heat Controls, TV, Cable, Telephone,
Wireless Internet access. Please note
most rooms contain 1 bed, either a Queen
or a King. Please also note rooms do not
contain refrigerators, microwaves,
coffee makers or cooking facilities, and
food preparation is not allowed.
What is the
difference between the Standard Queen
and Grand Queen rooms? Both have
private baths, and the same amenities
listed above. The Grand Queens are more
desirable because of their larger size
and/or better location in the hotel
layout.
Where do we
park? You can park anywhere in Cape
Charles, there is street parking right
outside the front door and a lot across
the street.
Can we check in
early? The lobby opens for
check-ins at 3:00 pm. Sorry, the Inn
can not accommodate check-ins earlier
than 3:00 pm.
When is the
best time to come to Cape Charles?
April, May, September & October are some
of the most beautiful months. The town
is always laid-back, but is busier on
weekends in June, July and August when
the Inn tends to fill up on weekends.
Always call and make your reservation as
soon as you can in advance. If you’re
considering coming mid-week, please be
aware many stores, some restaurants and
activities are closed Mon., Tues. or
Wed.
What is there to
do in Cape Charles? It is a quiet
little town known for the beach,
boating, golfing and relaxation.

Is there any
shopping or night life? No.
Is this a
waterfront property? No, although
you can see the harbor and the
Chesapeake Bay in the distance from the
verandah, the Inn is 2 blocks from the
harbor and the town’s sandy beach on the
Chesapeake Bay. There are no waterfront
hotels.
Can we swim in
the Atlantic Ocean? To visit a
public ocean beach or to swim in the
ocean, you could go 60 miles north to
Assateague Island, VA, there is a
beautiful National Seashore Park there
with public beaches (admission cost).
The town of Virginia Beach is 35 miles
south and has free public beaches (cost
to park and to cross the bridge)
How far are you
from the Bridge? Cape Charles is 8
miles north of The Chesapeake Bay Bridge
Tunnel, which is a 17 mile span. Please
note the current toll is $12 one-way
with a $5 return trip within 24 hours,
they accept cash only, and EZ Pass.
What kind of
assistance is there for boaters?
There are public moorings available at
the Bay Creek Marina (757-331-8600) and
the Town of Cape Charles Harbor
(757-331-2357). Cape Charles Harbor is
walkable, a few blocks from hotel. Bay
Creek Marina is 1 mile from hotel, they
rent golf-carts and sometimes run a
shuttle. Inquire at the marina about
rides. There is no taxi service in Cape
Charles. While we can sometimes help
with rides, most of our summer staff do
not have driver’s licenses. If you
trailer your boat, you can park it at
the harbor.
Can a bunch of
us share a room to save money? Not
really, since almost all of our rooms
contain one bed and the rooms are
already premium priced. There is an
extra charge for more than 2 persons in
our Deluxe Fulls which contain 2 Full
Size beds.
Does the
Historic Inn accept children? Yes,
well-behaved children 10 and older
traveling with their parents, who must
be supervised at all times. Most of our
guests are couples getting away for a
special weekend without their children,
often to celebrate a special event like
an anniversary or birthday.
Do you have
rollaway beds or sofas for our kids to
sleep on? No we don’t. However,
there are 2 rooms that contain 2 Full
Size beds that may accommodate
families. Rates are based on double
occupancy, the maximum is 4 persons in
this room, so there would be an extra
charge.
Can we bring our
pet with us? Sorry, the business
policy is not to accept pets. This is
primarily out of concern for other
guests and those with allergies.
Does the hotel
have a restaurant onsite? No. Cape
Charles is a small town of 600 people,
and there are 4 restaurants within 2
blocks of the hotel, and more within a
short drive.
Do you serve
breakfast? No. There are 3
restaurants serving breakfast and a
coffehouse in Cape Charles.
Do you have Gift
Certificates available? Yes. This
makes a wonderful gift for birthdays or
anniversaries.
Are there lower
rates or discounts available? The
rates published on this website are the
lowest rates available. We do not offer
government, military, AAA or AARP
discounts.
Are there Group
Rates available? Depending on the
dates requested, if there is single
party billing, for groups needing 8 or
more rooms for 2 or more nights, a lower
rate may be available. For example,
business retreats.
Do you have
meeting facilities for our group?
Yes, meeting facilities are available.
Please note that the Inn generally only
rents rooms to groups that are staying
with us, booking 8 or more rooms for 2
or more nights.
Where is Cape Charles?
Cape Charles is a small, historic
Chesapeake Bay beach town at the
southern end of the Delmarva Peninsula.
Collectively, the area is known as the
Eastern Shore of Virginia or simply “the
Shore”.
The Shore is the only ecosystem of
its kind in the world, with possibly the
last remaining 70 mile stretch of
completely undeveloped oceanfront on the
east coast.
How do I get to Cape Charles?
If you’re flying, you will arrive at
Norfolk (Virginia) International Airport
(ORF). It is an easy 45 minute drive.
Cape Charles is 39 miles north of
Norfolk Airport and 200 miles
south of Baltimore. It is 10
miles north of the Chesapeake
Bay Bridge Tunnel and the mouth
of Chesapeake Bay.

What is there to do in Cape Charles?

This is place to relax and get away. The
beach and sunsets are awesome. The
Chesapeake Bay is usually warm and clear
from May to November. The beach is
walking distance from the Cape Charles
Hotel Historic Inn is a favorite place
for couples and families, who can swim
and play in the shallow water and the
normally calm Chesapeake Bay surf. There
are also 2 world class golf courses,
great fishing, sailing and kayaking.
The Schooner Serenity goes out
for 2 hour sunset sails.
There is also a circa 1910 antique
excursion railroad (Bay Creek Railway)
offering one hour and 3 hour dinner

Keep in mind that Cape Charles is not
the place to come if you are interested
in shopping or nightlife, however, the
Virginia Beach area known as Tidewater”
is 45 minutes away and has plenty of
both.

What are the most popular places to dine
in Cape Charles?
The Aqua Restaurant at the Bay Creek
Marina Resort and Kelly’s Gingernut Pub
are quite popular and are both a few
blocks from the Cape Charles Hotel
Historic Inn. There are also several
other restaurants within walking
distance or a short drive. Ask the
Concierge at the Cape Charles Hotel
Historic Inn to fill you in and make you
a dinner reservation.
