| A visit to Cape
Charles Hotel Historic Inn is
like a breath of fresh air.
Friendly owners and their staff
welcome guests and groups to
this casually elegant historic
inn, complete with brand-new
interior amenities, centrally
located between the harbor and
the beach.
There are 17 comfortable
rooms, delightfully decorated
with art and antiques. To quote
Amy Duckett Wagner, the local
artist who designed the
interior, “Every room has its
own personality, like the
sunset, each is different!”
Every room has a private bath,
A/C, cable, phone, and internet. Many
offer Queens or Kings and some
have extra features like waterviews, or a private
terrace. Guests arrive by land
or sea, the building is
handicapped accessible, nightly
summer rates are $99 – 199
including breakfast, and rates
are less outside of summer
season. The building boasts
14,000 square feet and two
floors and is the only hotel in
town.
Upstairs, a terrace overlooks
Main Street, the harbor and the
waterviews over the Chesapeake
Bay. Downstairs, there is an
Event Room, Art Galleries, Lobby
and Bar. The
hotel offers a museum quality
collection of historic photos
and memorabilia and original
eastern shore landscape
paintings adorn the walls.
Richard Wagner, an owner
whose vision began the
restoration project, “This was
built in 1884 as a gathering
place, that is why groups love
to come here. It is truly a
special building with great
historical significance.” The 3
year, historically accurate
renovation of the hotel was
approved by the Virginia
Department of Historic
Resources’ stringent program for
historic renovations.
The “secret beach town” of
Cape Charles, Virginia is a nice
place for a vacation or a
weekend getaway. A harbor town
nestled on the Eastern Shore
peninsula of Virginia just north
of the channel where the
Chesapeake Bay joins the
Atlantic Ocean, it is 200 miles
south of Baltimore, and 39 miles
north of Norfolk International
Airport. Cape Charles, known for
7 square blocks of Historic
Register homes, beach and deep
water harbor, buzzed with
activity at the turn of the
century as a hub where the
railroad met the ferry. When the
ferry left, the town fell asleep
and it’s just waking up.
An excellent place for
romantic getaways, group
retreats, family reunions. . .
Stay at Cape Charles Hotel and
enjoy the sandy beach, unique
local art galleries, shops,
world-class golf, and a marina
all at a laid-back pace of a
quiet resort. The owners of Cape
Charles Historic Inn have two
warnings for guests, “Call ahead
and come before dinner, so you
don’t miss the sunset.”
